Fermilab Linear Collider Study Group
-- 03 December 1999 Meeting --
In our first meeting we received our charge.
Mike Witherell stressed the importance of looking at the physics
of linear colliders, as discussed in the charge.
Mike encouraged us to concentrate on physics, but to keep in touch
with developments in accelerator design and detector optimization.
The Directors named Andreas Kronfeld and Slawek Tkaczyk as coordinators
of the Study.
There were three prepared presentations to stimulate discussion.
Rather than summarize them, they are given here:
The possibilities of experimentation at a linear collider are vast, so
we stress that we will have to remain focused. Furthermore, the work
we carry out will have to be very well coordinated to prevent
repetition of basic tasks, not only obvious things such as event
generation, but also nitty-gritty such as reconstruction algorithms of
basic physical objects, like jet clustering, secondary vertices, etc.
Gene Fisk noted that the next International Conference on
Linear Collider Physics (LCWS2000) will be at Fermilab,
from October 20-28.
The homework assignment until next time is to browse through
the studies that have been done, especially those relevant to Higgs
physics and specific scenarios beyond the standard model.
The
ECFA/DESY Study
is recommended, because it has been the most
active in the last several months.
Also, please discuss, in person or via e-mail, your interests and
concerns with the
coordinators.
Unfortunately, several people who wanted to attend had conflicts.
In the future we will meet Wednesdays at 1:30 pm.
The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15.
