Minutes of P907 meeting on Wednesday June 20, 2001

1. Beam and Beamsheet

Thornton along with Ed Hartouni will develop the beamsheet. Note: there will be two targets - the primary target and the experimental target.

Beam - per Thornton:

a. Working on beam to SWYD.

b. Left bend magnet replacement to begin next fiscal year.

c. Secondary beam work in 2002

2. Analysis magnets

The exact location of these two magnets has not been determined. However, enough is known to say they will be toward the DS part of MC7, and therefore, will be over the MB tunnel. Jim Kilmer will do a structural analysis to determine what, if anything will need to be added in MB for tunnel support.

Rich Stanek does not feel it is necessary to assign an engineer specifically for assembly of each analysis magnet. Jim Ellermeier will catalog all magnets pieces, accumulate all past drawings and produce a step-by-step procedure for assembly of each magnet.

Chuck Grozis, with Gary Smith will produce a drawing that compares the current beamline height to the centerline of the JGG & Rosie. Andrew Symu… has some historical documentation on MC.

Chuck Grozis has the JGG coil that needs repair out on the street. The estimated return of the coil is late August.

3. BM109's

Site Department will proceed with their removal. Mike has already begun discussion with Taft Construction. They may have a particular type of gantry vehicle that can fit between the MP/MC enclosure and pick out the magnets.

Ansley cable must be addressed soon. It will take 10 men 2 days to pull back from MP5 into MC7. If done, what to do with the cable. There are a lot of cables and they will fall where all the work JGG work has to take place. Eventually, if they are used, they will attach to chambers that are in DS MC7 and route to racks, possibly in MB. I think the ansley should be completely removed and gotten out of the way!

4. Radiation

Thornton will have Tom Kobilarcik to conduct an assessment of the beamline. Raja says the beam intensity will be 10 to the 5th. Questions to answer:

a. Can concrete shielding over the MC pile be reduced?

b. Can concrete shielding over the MW pile be removed?

c. Can the ZGS steel be removed from MC7 east side?

d. Can the concrete blocks on either side and outside of MC7 & MC8 be removed?

e. What shielding (muon veto? Other?) will be required downstream of the experiment?

f. Can beam-on access to MB7 & MB8 be allowed to attend electronics racks? (Also, possible egress issue if shoring gets added to MB7).

5. TPC

Gas issues (Rich Schmitt) &endash; Peter Barnes coming early July (maybe)

6. RICH

Weight 16K lbs. &endash;

a. Need 10 feet US and clear to setup of mirror alignment

b. Gas issues (Rich Schmitt)

c. Install track for RICH to roll on.

7. Next Meeting

The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 27th, Small Dining Room at 10:30AM &endash; Note: 30 minutes later than previous meeting.
