Bob Woods has found one potential problem with his scheme to shore up MB with a single beam installed down the center of the ceiling with one vertical and one horizontal support added. The rebar in the ceiling slab comes from the two sides and overlaps about 14". The standard calls for 27" overlap. He will take his calculation (along with Hans) to Elaine McCluskey in FESS for her evaluation.
The 1 foot thick slab that is needed under the JGG & Rosie to distribute weight for the soil conditions will be a continuous slab from the US side of the JGG to the DS side of Rosie. The one floor elevation will lend to simpler supporting of other equipment in the area.
The beam elevation is about 80". Therefore, the roof in the area of the magnets will be raised about 4 feet. Quotes for roof replacement are in process.
Fabrication of return yoke spacers, if needed to adjust Rosie's gap, can be gotten into the MAB shop queue.
The repair is about 2 weeks behind schedule. The original idea of "springing the coil apart, re-taping and re-spring into place did not work. So the coil will be unwound, taped and rewound.
Transfer hall magnets are aligned. Electrical and vacuum will be done during the October accelerator shutdown.
After the October shutdown is complete, November 1, work will begin on rigging out cryo magnets in left bend.
Short term Schedule:
The next meeting will be Wednesday, August 15th, Theory Room, WH3NE at 10:30AM.
