Progress Updates and Issues

Leon Beverly's meeting summaries in italics.

Upstream Beamline

BEAM - Beamline

UBL - Upstream Beamline Detectors

Beam CKOV:

Of the 2 heads, one can be remotely adjusted, but the other is manual only. Also, one head is missing parts, but the other is ok. It is imperative the Mike Heffner be involved in work on the units. Any Fermilab people working on the units should not make assumptions on any needs regarding these units without contacting Mike for his input.

For informational purposes, there will be a few small beam chambers located before? between? After? the beam CKOV.

Targets

TGTW - Target Wheel

CTGT - Cryogenic Targets

NTGT - NuMI (MINOS) Target

TPC - Time Projection Chamber

Jim Kilmer will commence gathering information needed to begin design of a support and handling stand for the TPC.

Magnets

Installation procedures for both the JGG & Rosie should be circulated for signatures this week.

JGG - Jolly Green Giant

Rosy

CKOV - Cerenkov

Ingrid Fang:

The clearance between the floor and the undercarriage of the CKOV support is about 1 inch. After survey of the slab based upon a grid of 5' increments, the numbers show that the floor has a deviation of 0.3 inches maximum over the area of CKOV support stand movement, all is good.

Secondly, since the support stand will be only 2 inches from the DS side of the JGG, a calculation of the force acting on the support due to the fringe field of the JGG is needed. Rafa will speak to Bob Wands to understand and get the necessary calculation done.

DC - Drift Chambers

Fabrication of 60 printed circuit cards to adapt the output of the discriminator chassis to cables are on hold until Adam solves cross talk problems.

Stephen Pordes to speak to Lindenmeyer about design of bracket to retain chamber readout cards and to attach aluminum duct way which will house cables and direct air cooling

A requisition to order additional gas has been entered into the system by the Division office.

Peter Barnes to speak to Ed Hartouni about producing a single line diagram of the chamber readout electronics.

Raja seeking a graduate student to assist in chamber check out.

TOF - Time of Flight

Raja to check on progress of Rosie fringe field and possible effect on the TOF.

RICH - Ring Imaging Cerenkov

Gary will give me 3 sets of drawings for the support stands. He will also forward an electronic set to Peter.

NCAL - Calorimeter

Gary has about another week of work to complete the drawing of the support stand.

DAQ - Data Acquisition

MC - Monte Carlo

Installation

Alignment

Virgil will forward a spreadsheet of the data collected during a survey of the MC7 floor elevation to Raja & Peter, for posting on the Web.

Alignment has established the following as the baseline for E907 surveying done in MC7:

  1. The existing "chalk" line in MC7, which was used by E871, will determine the "X" position of equipment in MC7.
  2. From the chalk line in #1, the beam height will be 80.5 inches.
  3. The analysis magnets center line will be set using #1 & #2.

Virgil has also verified that MC7 walls and concrete slab location match Gary's drawing of the enclosure.

The next step, within 2 weeks, is to mark location of the additional concrete slab which is needed to further elevate Rosie.

MC7 Enclosure and Counting House

Raja to reconcile his "beamsheet" with the coordinates Peter has posted on the Web. In addition, Peter has reconciled his numbers with Gary's drawing.
