Leon Beverly's meeting summaries in italics.
Hello,
I am a new Fermilab postdoc. I joined MIPP earlier this week. I am looking forward to meet all of you and do a nice experiment. This summer I finished my PhD in the LEGS collaboration at Brookhaven National Lab as a student of Marvin Blecher at Virginia Tech. If you have any questions about me, please contact me at hmeyer@fnal.gov or 630-840-4463 (phone will change once I move to a new office).
Best Regards,
Holger Meyer
BEAM - Beamline
Chuck Brown reports all Beams work has stopped because funding is not in place. For the pre & post target beamline, he is waiting for Raja to give an ok to any and all elements needed to cast the beamline in stone.
UBL - Upstream Beamline Detectors
BCKOV
For the current scheme, an E690 chamber, a vacuum SWIC, one CKOV, a second E690 beam chamber, second CKOV, a third E690 chamber and air SWIC, Ed LaVallie has determined that the beam pipe length prior to each CKOV will be 78'&endash;7" and 27'-6 3/8" respectively. Gary/Ed &endash; get a copy of Ed's drawing to Peter. [Done - see MC7_021011 .pdf .gif]
For this scheme Chuck says he only needs one SWIC at the DS end of the 2nd CKOV. Question for Raja, ok to eliminate the first SWIC?
Jim Kilmer has asked for a quote to resurface the mirrors.
HOWEVER a new wrinkle &endash; the possibility of using the E706 CKOV which used a beam pipe length of 105', very close to the total of 106' &endash; 1 2/8" for both CKOV in the current scheme. The beam pipe is at the Railhead. Question for Raja &endash; you would only use the one CKOV?
TGTW - Target Wheel
CTGT - Cryogenic Targets
NTGT - NuMI (MINOS) Target
Ingrid Fang:
The quotes for TPC unit [stand, cart] seems reasonable. I have a set of drawings marked for fabrication only to go with your purchase order.
When funds are available, a PO will be placed to fabricate stand, cart & rails to support the TPC.
Ziptrack:
Ed Hartouni:
A Hall Probe would be good for both magnets. In addition, the probes should be in during the zip tracking, which then allows us to normalize all of the zip track data sets and to tie the map to later running conditions.
Raja:
Mike Roman and I moved the Cart today using Ziptrack. So I think we are ready to plug in the hall probes and read the earth's magnetic field + noise. Also, we need to absolutely calibrate the probes. You [Doug Jensen] are the expert on this, so what do we need to do?
Doug Jensen:
One needs either a reference probe, or a reference magnet. These hall probes are quite stable, but after years, they should indeed be calibrated if one is to get reliable absolute information. I have the vidio and notes. Watching the vidio as I copied it did bring back many memories of details. Good to have.
Ziptrack cart installed & moves with control. The next step is to calibrate the probes.
Peter &endash; we planned to seek bids for installing main LCW headers in MC7. However with the ziptrack nearly ready, should we go with T&M to speed up the installation &endash; 3 weeks vs 6 weeks for bidding?;
JGG - Jolly Green Giant
LCW header installation on JGG 50% complete.
Rosie
Shimming material to shim coils is being cut; LCW headers mounted on Rosie, hoses will be added after coil shimming is done.
Move from PC4 to MC7 about the last week in November.
DC1&endash;4 (E690 Chambers)
Ingrid Fang:
I have finished the Chamber3 support frame design. I will work on locking down this chamber and chamber4 supports will be next.
Transfer frame has been made to work for opening a chamber. Additional assembly will be done on the frames. Evaluation of potential bad chamber will continue - possible chamber opening will take place October 25th.
DC#3 support stand in Gary's queue. After designing floor attachment for DC#3, design of DC#4 stand will proceed.
DC5 & DC6 (Iowa Chambers)
Support stand drawings are complete & ready for checking. Assembly drawing is next; Nick Solomay will take charge of readout & RMH electronics.
Jim Kilmer:
List of equipment we will need for the RICH:
- Chiller for keeping the radiator temperature constant.
- Chiller for cooling the phototubes in their box.
(Both of these are the same size as the one now cooling the TPC and I have them in stock.)
- Fan and radiator system to cool the phototubes with dry air. (3' X 4' X 3')
- Rack with low voltage supplies. Sten thinks we won't need all of them.
- DAQ racks for signals.
- I have no plan for providing cooling to the electronics (what used to be the hybrid chips) as Sten has led me to believe we won't need it.
Gas system depends on what you will choose as a gas. I estimate two choices:
- The choice is CO2.
We then need a gas rack with sensors for O2 measurement and H2O. Cylinder rack for CO2.- The gas is a permanent gas.
We will need the gas rack with sensors, a compressor (3.5' X 5' X 6'), a freezer/adsorber package (5' sq X 7" tall), storage tank for compressor suction buffer, and gas bottle and LN2 dewar racks.
The need for this system is that the RICH CAN NOT be evacuated, but must be purged by some flow purge scheme to put in the correct gas. The phototube holder plate can not take more than 3 psi across it!Readout of the LEDs has not been successful yet. The tank is close up until cleaning of the MC7 floor is complete.
Hyangkyu Park:
The attached pdf files are our rough drawing for EMCAL. Basically all plane will be hung on unistruct and each plane will move along the beam direction to access it for repairing a bad wire during the run.
For seperate stands, it's a little bit hard to make it vertical since the EMCAL is heavy and too narrow (~30cm).

Stand Concept
Conceptual design complete. Still need to determine is CAL will have separate stand or attach to NCAL. A search for available lead at Fermilab is still ongoing.
Terry has developed a matrix list of system gas types, cost, etc. He needs feedback from users. The week 10/14, he is meeting with ES&H regarding safety issues related to the gas shed currently located at the end of MC8
Alignment
When ziptracking is done, the laser tracker will also be used to track cart position as it sweeps the magnets aperature. Virgil will also get RICH mirror alignment data from Larry or Jim.
Installation of exit & EM lights in progress; the floor has been sealed in the DS area of MC7.
The next call will be Thursday, 17 October 2002, at 3:00 CDT in WH-11SW.
