BEAM - Beamline
Chuck Brown reports all Beams work has stopped. He is working on a FY03 cost estimate to present to Beams Director.
UBL - Upstream Beamline Detectors
BCKOV
Four mirrors are needed &endash; 2 large & 2 small. Two existing large mirrors, made of fused silica - 13"D with 2" hole, currently in each CKOV are ok, but need to be resurfaced. One small mirror with a 5 mrad hole exist, but an existing mirror with a smaller hole will have to be modified for the one with a 7 mrad hole; beam pipe will have to have an insulation jacket placed on it to help stabilize temperature inside the pipe; installation of the stands, pipe & CKOV heads can not totally be installed until the TPC is located on its stand. However, work on the CKOV heads can proceed.
TGTW - Target Wheel
CTGT - Cryogenic Targets
Del Allspach and Rich Schmitt:
E-907 Liquid Hydrogen Target Resource Estimate
Following is an estimate of the cost and effort required to provide a Liquid Hydrogen Target System at MC7. This assumes that most of the basic design features are the same as were used for E-690 and that several target system components from that experiment are available as well.
For M&S, the estimate is $97.6K which includes a 10% contingency. The effort from Fermilab personnel is 12 months for Engineering and Design and 24 months for Technicians.
The request for a second target filled with liquid nitrogen will need to be considered in detail. This estimate assumes a shared refrigeration system with the liquid hydrogen target as well as the use of a motor driven platform which would be programmed to position the desired target into the beamline. Such platforms were previously utilized in liquid hydrogen systems at Fermilab. It is assumed that one of these platforms is available.
Costs for a refrigeration system and modern controls are included in the estimate as well as an allowance for a number of upgraded valves and instruments. A careful review of the existing equipment will be performed to determine if some might be useful for use in E-907 with consideration given to the effort required to deem it operable. The cost estimate for the controls system could be reduced if another suitable system is identified. The type costed has been used in several other process systems at Fermilab and has proven its value and reliability. Some of the estimated engineering effort is allocated to reviewing and evaluating these system components.
We look forward to assisting Experiment 907 in its need for this system.
NTGT - NuMI (MINOS) Target
When funds are available, a PO will be placed to fabricate stand, cart & rails to support the TPC.
Main LCW header installation, which is needed to ziptrack, is on hold until John Cooper OK's the T&M fitter requisition.ZipTrack
Walt will work with Holger Meyer to get hall probes mounted in the ANs.
JGG - Jolly Green Giant
LCW headers are complete. The coil cooling hoses will be installed the week of 11/4. Thermal switches (klixons) to detect coil over temperature have been connected.
Rosie
DS side of Rosie coil shims will be installed the week of 11/4, followed by connecting LCW hoses. Fabrication of Bus jumpers to series coils is in process. Klixons need to be connected.
Move from PC4 to MC7 about the last week in November (may be later if ziptracking is not completed).
DC1-4 (E690 Chambers)
Ready to do final analysis procedures on chamber & open if necessary to repair.
DC#3 support stand drawing complete & ready for checking, need assembly drawing. DC#4 stand drawing in progress.
DC5 & DC6 (Iowa Chambers)
Support stand drawings are complete. Assembly drawing is next.
Tim Bergfeld:
Various TOF designs are being studied. We are contimplating using cheeper tubes, less segmentation, and various light guides to drive the cost of the system down. These changes all introduce decreases in the time resolution which can be acheived and hence the resolving power of the particle ID functionality of the experiment.
Gary Feldman will be having a biweekly meeting on RICH electronics.
Michigan will order lead (~3000 lbs@60 cents/lb) soon, 3 week delivery time. Lead training & an HA will need to be executed prior to working with CAL assembly using the lead.
Freon 13B1 may not be used according to 7th floor ES&H. See the Freon 13B1 Discussion linked from the Gas Systems page.
Alignment
A survey network using the laser tracker will be completed the week of 11/4.
Installation of conduit and wiring to power heaters, OH doors, exit & EM lights in progress.
The next call will be Thursday, 7 November 2002, at 3:00 CDT in WH-3NE, Theory Room.
