Leon Beverly's meeting summaries in italics.
BEAM - Beamline
Dave C. & Virgil to convert Dave's design into the beam line coordinate system, then Tom K. will produce a beam sheet which locates all elements in the beam line.
Accelerator shutdown is scheduled to begin January 13th and last for 3 weeks.
UBL - Upstream Beamline Detectors
BCKOV
One mirror is at vendor where the hole will be enlarged to 7 mr. Once that mirror is returned, then all 4 mirrors will be sent out for stripping and resurfacing.
Drawing to show how one CKOV gets modified for remote control is in process. The drawing is expected to be complete 12/20. Remote control parts (motors, LCDTs, etc.) will cost about $900.
Frequency of gas changes in the BCKOVs will not be more than once per day. If interested, look on Web for gas system specs.
Beam Chambers
Use UVA chambers in [MC6] area? Ken Nelson is the contact. In the past a gas mix of 50% isobutane, 50% CF4 was used in these chambers. A possible alternative: 50% ethane, 50% argon.
Alan Hahn is doing some testing on the small E690 chambers. In the past they used a gas mixture of 15% isobutene, 85% argon (+methylal).
TGTW - Target Wheel
CTGT - Cryogenic Targets
NTGT - NuMI (MINOS) Target
Need to plan for a "clean room" tent in preparation for opening the TPC to install the cathode plane.
Peter to discuss gas system with Dave Northacker.
ZipTrack
The ziptrack will be set up in MC7 starting 12/11. JGG ziptracking probably starts at the end of this week. An operations procedure must be developed prior to John C. signing a pORC.
The Laser tracker will be used to document ziptrack hall probe locations.
JGG - Jolly Green Giant
Raja:
This morning we reached an important milestone. We managed to power up the Jolly Green Giant magnet to full field with the coil we fixed. The magnet was controlled (set and readback ) using ACNET. People present in data taking were (Holger Meyer, Walt Jaskierny and myself). We appreciate help from the Beams Division with ACNET. We attach the excitation plot. [below] The field was read out using two absolutely calibrated Hall probes via GPIB. We plan to get these readings into ACNET shortly, but currently they are manually read from the Hall probe box. A
postscript[pdf] file of the data is enclosed. 1400 A seems to be a good operating point. We have not tested the maximum field value yet; a field of 0.74 Tesla is similar to the field used by E690 and this is achievable using ~1400 A.
The plan is to begin Ziptracking Jolly Green Giant shortly.

Rosie
Copper bus jumper installation is complete. Installation of LCW hoses to begin Monday, 12/16, some hose & fittings are on order.
Move from PC4 to MC7 late December.
Nick to investigate if all DCs can use the same gas mixture. In the past,
Nick looking at alternatives: dimethylether, recirculate freon, recirculate methylal
- UVA chambers used 50% CF4, 50% isobutane; consider 50% argon, 50% ethane.
- E690 beam chambers used 85% argon, 15% isobutane, and methylal.
- E690 chambers used 75% argon, 25% isobutane, and methylal.
DC1-4 (E690 Chambers)
Preamp checking will be completed this week, then discriminator checking will begin.
Dave Miller is putting DC3 back together. It may go on the test stand next. Support stand drawing back to Ingrid for checking.
DC4 is on the test stand. After all electronics is operational the chamber will be source tested. Working on stand details, assembly dwg 60% complete
C5 & DC6 (Iowa Chambers)
Quote to fabricate support stand due 12/20.
Two students [Andre Lebedev and Sharon Suen] are working on the LED readout problem.
Terry Tope produced a drawing for the gas system. Drafting to produce a documented drawing.
HyangKyu Park:
We have done priliminary checks for 75 units of the proportional tubes during last week. We will finish this check by Tuesday or Wednesday, and will get total 100 units. 80 units will be used for EMCAL assembling and another 20 units for spare things. And also, the study for readout electronics is going.
Lead workers will meet at MC7 the first of next week to discuss assembly procedure.
See drift chamber gas discussion, above.
Alignment
The next call will be Tuesday, 17 December 2002, at 1:00 CDT in WH-2NE, Snake Pit.
